Main Festivities Of The Parish

There are two major festivities celebrated by the parish apart from the mandatory feasts in the liturgical calendar.

4th February

Feast of St.John de Britto

Feast of St.John de Britto,the patron saint, is commemorated on 4th Feb. every year. The feast (perunal) is celebrated either on 4th Feb or on the following Sunday if the feast day falls on a week day .The perunnalis celebrated with all pomp and show. The major attraction of the festival (perunal) is the colorful procession (pradakshinam)on the eve of the festival day which goes round almost the whole of Sakthikulangara, with a good number of people lining up for the procession carrying decorated statues of the saints and Mother Mary. The processionis received by the devotees on the entire route with illumination and fireworks.

Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel

Feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel (KarmalaMaathaavu). This is celebrated with devotion in the month of September every year.

Other feasts celebrated in the parish are :

  • Feast of St. Antony
  • Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • Canonisation of St .John De Britto -June 22.
  • Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul celebrated, on the Sunday following the feast - Sea is symbolically opened with a key seeking the repeat of the rich haul of fish in Peter’s net.
